Why My T-Mobile Wing Touch Screen Stops Working?


The T-Mobile Wing is a rebadged HTC Herald (or P4350), initially sold only by cell phone provider T-Mobile. This smartphone is loaded with features including a sliding keyboard and a full touch screen interface. If the touch screen on your T-Mobile Wing no longer functions, there are some solutions available.

Repair the Device

If your device is under warranty through T-Mobile, the repair of your Wing smartphone is most likely covered (minus a deductible). Some extenuating circumstances, however, such as water damage, are not covered under this warranty. To find out if you can send your phone into the T-Mobile repair center for repair or replacement, you must contact T-Mobile customer support and discuss your situation with a representative.

For those customers who do not pay an additional monthly cost for a warranty, there are several repair services available on the internet for non-working or broken electronic devices, including smartphones. Companies such as CellularDr and Mission Repair provide the ability for you to send in your device for repair by a professional, often at lower prices than cell phone providers. Some even provide free estimates, letting you know how much you will be spending before you become obligated to have repair service completed.

If the touch screen on your T-Mobile Wing is broken or cracked, it will most likely need to be completely replaced, which can also be done by the T-Mobile repair center or many of the other third-party repair companies.

Replace the Device

As an older model phone (that has since been replaced by the HTC Touch Pro 2), the T-Mobile Wing may be more cost-efficient to replace than repair.

If you want to replace your device with another T-Mobile Wing, it is no longer available directly through T-Mobile which may make it more difficult to find one in new condition. If you do not mind purchasing a "like new" or used Wing from an independent seller, eBay and Craigslist are great resources to find one at a low price.

If you would rather update to a newer cell phone, T-Mobile has a variety of new smartphones, equally as capable as the Wing in terms of features and abilities. The HTC Touch Pro 2 is essentially a newer version of the T-Mobile Wing, for instance, and sports a tilting touch screen (the screen on the Wing does not tilt), full QWERTY keyboard, and a modified external appearance. Depending on the terms of your contract with T-Mobile (if you still have one), you may be eligible for a customer discount on the purchase of a new device.

Considerations

Instead of opting to have the T-Mobile Wing repaired by a professional technician, there are many owners who simply buy the parts (a replacement LCD screen in this case) and complete the labor of installing it on their own. This can save money, however if you are not comfortable with taking your cell phone apart, it can be a daunting task.

If more than just the touch screen is damaged on your device, there are also several sellers and retailers that offer other parts of the T-Mobile Wing for sale. CellularDR.com, for example, sells many parts separately including the housing, battery, battery door, and front keypad.

If you wish to attempt replacing parts of the Wing on your own, you must also own or purchase the proper tools to get the job done correctly. This would include a T5 Torx screwdriver and a small flat blade (to pry up the back plate and trim ring).

Always be careful and patient when performing your own repairs. Opening your device usually voids your manufacturer warranty and you would not want to take a complete loss on your device and the repair parts that you purchased.
