How to Troubleshoot a T-Mobile Dash

T-Mobile Dash Smartphone

The T-Mobile Dash is a popular smartphone made by HTC. The phone runs Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone Edition software, and supports a large amount of features and software. Like any electronic device, certain problems can occasionally occur with everyday use. These can be caused by memory or software issues within the phone. Luckily, most of these problems are easy to correct with a few simple steps. For a T-Mobile Dash that is performing slowly or sluggishly, use these common troubleshooting steps.

Instructions

  • Check if programs are running in the background when they are not in use. This can use up significant device memory. Close any unnecessary programs from the Task Manager. You should close programs regularly to keep memory free.
  • Remove large files such as videos and extra software from the memory. These can interfere with performance. Use SD cards for storage of large files, keeping internal memory free. The Dash should have at least 10 to 15 MB of total memory free to function properly.
  • Uninstall third-party programs that are not approved by Microsoft. These programs are often downloaded from the Internet. However, T-Mobile cannot offer support for these programs. Use software that has been certified by Microsoft, the publisher of the Dash's operating system, whenever possible.
  • Use the Task Manager to check system information. T-Mobile Dash WM version 5.0+ Task Manager is included with the Dash. This program shows system information, lets you clear memory and features other utilities for troubleshooting. Information on the Task Manager is available in the User Manual (see Resources).
  • Reset the Dash device. Turn off the phone, wait several seconds and turn it back on. For a Dash that is locked up, remove the battery, wait 20 seconds, then re-install the battery and turn the device back on. Reset the Dash regularly to clear memory and keep it functioning properly.
